SUSTAINABILTY

Our steadfast commitment to sustainability is guided by three core pillars: Wood, Water, and What Lies Ahead. Together, they form a platform that empowers our teams and facilities to focus on real, actionable initiatives driven by thoughtful decision-making, production efficiencies, and continuous improvement—creating sustainability through meaningful action.

Wood | Without it, we could not do what we do. From barrel-aging to brewing, we are constantly exploring ways to preserve, reuse, and extend the life of this vital natural resource to fully realize its potential.

Water | Clean, sustainable, high-quality water is essential to making great whiskey and barrel-aged beer. We are committed to treating this resource with respect and using it responsibly at every stage of production.

What Lies Ahead | This pillar celebrates the moments when our people and our company make a positive environmental impact beyond our walls. It reflects our belief that sustainability is an evolving journey—one that continues to grow through innovation, collaboration, and imagination.

UPCYCLED BARRELS

Every barrel at Town Branch gets internally upcycled to make make our Kentucky Bourbon Barrel-Aged Beers. Annually Town Branch Bourbon® will upcycle 1,000+ bourbon barrels to make our beers. Additionally, we will purchase and upcycle an additional 10,000+ bourbon barrels from other distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® to ensure the lifecycle of each oak tree lives well beyond just a single use to make bourbon. To date our distillery has upcycled over 150,000+ Kentucky bourbon barrels in an effort to protect white oak.

PLANT A TREE FOR PLD

Our late founder, Dr. Pearse Lyons, was often quoted as saying, “The legacy I would like to leave is that we made a difference.” In that spirit, all Lyons family businesses celebrate Dr. Pearse Lyons ‘Make a Difference Day’ each year in August. In honor of that tradition, on August 2, 2024, our team planted a symbolic oak tree at Town Branch Distillery®. The average American white oak lives 300–400 years, with many reaching well over 600 years — a fitting tribute to a legacy built to last for generations still to come.

A LIFE OF THE BARREL STORY

Once upon a time, an ex-Town Branch Bourbon® barrel embarked on a journey from Kentucky to Michigan, where it was entrusted with aging pure Michigan maple syrup. After the syrup matured to perfection and was decanted, the barrel returned home to Lexington, Kentucky — this time to age a bold, rich Imperial Stout for eighteen months. When its work in brewing was complete, the barrel felt a calling to return to its roots once more. It made its way back to Town Branch®, where it finished aging a 7+ year-old bourbon, ultimately creating our celebrated Town Branch® Maple Barrel Stout Finished Bourbon. A single barrel, four exceptional journeys and one purpose – The Life of the Barrel.
